Sea Shepherd Conservation Society
Working to end the destruction of habitat and wildlife in the world’s oceans.
The Problem
The health and biodiversity of our delicately balanced ocean ecosystems are assailed by a host of pressures. Climate change and rising seas; overfishing, both legal and illegal; poaching and slaughter of endangered species; plastic trash; pollution; human-caused diseases — these are just some of the threats that threaten marine life and habitats. On current trends, without concerted and deliberate action, the very survival of irreplaceable ecosystems and species is in serious doubt.
The Solution
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society works to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans. Using direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action, they seek to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas and to conserve and protect ecosystems and species. From the Galapagos to the shores of Florida, Honduras, and Costa Rica; from the Pacific Northwest to the Indian Ocean, the organization conducts research; sends vessels to patrol and protect marine refuges; volunteers to beaches to save sea turtles from poachers; promotes environmental education and awareness; and advocates for an end to illegal fishing.
