BLK MKT Vintage is an online shop, featuring blk collectibles, antiques & curiosities that represent the richness of not only American but Blk American history.

The Problem

When folks think about the history of African Americans in this nation often oppression or pain comes to mind. From Ancient African civilizations, to slavery, to present day the narrative of the Blk experience is often controlled by the majority, usually with motives of presenting a stereotype or for the use of political propaganda. As such blk artifacts are scarce and often left to the peripheries of history.

The Solution

We seek to change the narrative of not only history but the ways we engage with lessons of the past in the contemporary context. By shifting blk cultural artifacts from margin to center through visibility and thoughtful curation, we’re communicating very explicitly to blk folks and beyond that “not only do we see you, but you’re worthy. What you’ve created is worthy of exploration and interrogation and is valuable." Our brick & mortar location will allow us to do this and more.
