Partnership for Transparency: supporting civil society in demanding accountability

Giving local community leaders the resources they need to catalyze citizen-led movements demanding greater transparency and accountability.

The Problem

We live in an age where faith in governments and democracy itself is waning. Too often the interests of the powerful take precedent over the needs of the people. Our experience has shown that a capable, observant and dynamic civil society – the media, local community organizations, regional and national non-governmental institutions – can bring corrupt behavior to light, motivating governments to take action, and renewing trust between citizens and their governments. Yet, civic space is shrinking and local leaders often lack the resources and experience they need to mobilize for change.

The Solution

Our network of over 50 development professionals provides (often pro bono) counsel, support and training to local leaders. Partnership for Transparency's volunteers work closely with civil society organizations (CSOs) in developing and emerging countries designing solutions for communities' governance challenges. We support CSOs in collecting evidence and constructively engaging authorities for systematic institutional change. We then facilitate a network where local leaders can learn from each others experience.

Your support will allow us scale-up our work with promising local leaders, providing them with not only counsel and tools, but seed funding to pilot prototyped solutions.
