Understanding the ocean for our planet and our future
The Problem
The ocean is a defining feature of our planet and crucial to life on Earth, and knowledge about it is crucial to understanding life on a changing planet. And yet the ocean remains largely under-explored, which limits human understanding not just of the ocean itself, but of Earth’s atmosphere and environment — and its very future.
The Solution
WHOI scientists and engineers are committed to understanding all facets of the ocean and its complex connections with Earth’s atmosphere, land, ice, seafloor, and life—including humanity. WHOI researchers are committed to training future generations of ocean science leaders, providing unbiased information that informs public policy and decision-making, and expanding public awareness about the importance of the global ocean and its resources.
