Gender Justice League: Elevating civil and human rights for trans and gender diverse people
Gender Justice League: Elevating civil and human rights for trans and gender diverse people
The Problem
Transgender people face some of the worst stigmas worldwide. For one, because they only make up 0.2 - 0.3% of the population, they are - by definition - a minority and easy to shut out of the process. If you are not transgender, it is difficult to image what that life is like. Violence against transgender individuals continues to be high. Transgender people are more likely to be targets of a hate crime than any other group.
The Solution
The Gender Justice League approaches its work in a number of different ways: traditional grassroots activism, media and advocacy, collective fundraising, and leadership development. In the era of President Trump, the Gender Justice League has shifted its focus to creating an emergency fund to help transgender people change their legal documents to correspond with their identities. They are preparing - in every way possible - for the state sanctioned discrimination that is likely to come.
