The Problem

Despite efforts to eradicate all types of cancers, women today are more likely to develop breast cancer than any other previous generation. While there are some unavoidable risk factors -- such as delayed childbearing and menopause -- these simply do not explain the increased rate of breast cancer that we have seen in recent years. Breast cancer research has now turned to the increased prevalence of chemicals and pollutants as the potential culprit behind the rising rate of breast cancer.

The Solution

The Silent Spring Institute is a coalition organization made up of activists, physicians, public health officials, and scientists to work together to try and figure out what is causing breast cancer. The institute is one of the few places in the country focused on environmental pollutants as a potential cause of breast cancer, and they have been a leader in finding the chemicals in everyday products that contain hormone disruptors and breast carcinogens. The Silent Spring Institute is determined to prove that better outcomes are possible for women if they limit their exposure to harmful carcinogens and chemicals.
