WECAN (Women's Earth & Climate Action Network): Organizing women worldwide to take action to address the climate crisis
The Problem
Climate change poses an immediate and existential threat to all people on the planet. The complexities of this challenge demand fundamental changes to how we live with each other and our Earth. There is a need for new and comprehensive alliances and a diverse representation of activists and leaders to address climate change. This will require more prominent women leadership and activism to help implement climate change and sustainability solutions.
The Solution
WECAN is an international, grassroots organization whose goal is to stop the escalation of climate change. WECAN is engaging women's organizations worldwide to join together and take action. It bases all its campaign's on four basic, guiding rights: the rights of women, the rights of indigenous people, the rights of nature, and the rights of future generations. When women are empowered and put in leadership positions, sustainable economies grow, population growth declines, and population health improves. WECAN provides direct training opportunities, direct action opportunities, and global convening opportunities.
